Wambamboo

Wambamboo is the premier range of bamboo furniture by Brisbane-based designer Kent Gration. Kent believes that "good design should last forever, but needn’t last forever in our environment."

The range addresses the issue of sustainability in the furniture industry, by a divergence into renewable materials, utilising cross-laminated bamboo boards, veneers and bamboo poles to create stylish and functional hand-crafted furniture, lighting and everyday objects. The range highlights bamboo’s ability as a high-end versatile material, whilst also promoting the environmental benefits of this sustainable resource.

Bamboo, a non-wood material, has been used for centuries in buildings, as a foodstuff and as an ornamental plant, but due to a growing global demand for sustainable materials, it now features in textiles, plant-based polymers and a diverse range of carpentry products. All pieces in the Wambamboo range are produced using bamboo, natural materials, low-impact production methods and non-toxic finishes, producing a tactile organic range which is as environmentally friendly as possible.

Wambamboo has been exhibited at the Salone Satellite Milan 2007, 100% Design London 2007, and exhibitions in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane. The range has featured in international publications and the Costello Seat won the prestigious Melbourne Fringe Furniture “Best Sustainable Design” Award 2007, and a "Silver Award" in the Queensland Design Awards 2008.
